Who? Medical, Dental, PT, OT, PA, Nursing, and Pharmacy students from MUSC and USC along with providers from each field.
 
 
  SMI (Summer Medical Institute) is sponsored by Medical Campus Outreach
 
What? SMI is a student-oriented program designed to teach health professionals how to share the compassion of Christ through their profession and lives.  SMI seeks to do so by providing intensive medical training along with personal character study and hands-on application in healthcare clinics and community settings.  SMI's premise is than an excellent health professional is one that has a commanding knowledge of a particular field of healthcare united with Christ-like compassion, character, and understanding of people.

Where? Thohoyandou, South Africa  
Participants will be working with Acclerated Christian Education (ACE) and missionaries Brad and Hazel Palmer.  WE will have access to the local hospital for surgeries as well as a 300-bed orphanage in which to hold clinics.  We also have the goal of reaching out to the Venda people through day clinics in nearby villages.
 
Why? The purpose of SMI is for participants to grow in a relationship with Christ and in doing so to be better equipped to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of their patients.
